Your all-round aero wheel

Your do-it-all aero wheel

To give you a complete aerodynamic advantage on the road, we designed the Mavic COMETE 50 carbon wheel: an aero carbon wheel designed to deliver speed, responsiveness, and control on all road profiles.

Its 50 mm profile and 23 mm internal width ensure an optimal balance between air penetration, stability, and comfort, allowing you to maintain high speed while retaining precise control, even in crosswinds.

Its aero shaped carbon spokes work in synergy with wind tunnel-optimized geometry, a design developed during our sessions at the Geneva wind tunnel and validated by feedback from professional riders and expert testers to guarantee measurable aerodynamic efficiency in a variety of conditions.

The new Mavic Ceramic bearings significantly reduce friction, giving you better power transfer and superior efficiency, especially when speed increases or the road slopes.

Weighing in at just 1315 g per pair, the Mavic COMETE 50 carbon wheel pushes the limits of lightness without sacrificing stiffness nor precision, for a wheel capable of accelerating instantly, holding its line on fast descents, and maintaining a high level of comfort over long distances.

More than just an aero wheel, the COMETE 50 is a truly versatile, high-performance solution, capable of excelling on the flat and on climbs, from sustained tempo to the most aggressive sprints.

Total performance, concentrated in an aero carbon wheel that elevates every ride.

Definitively the combo
for pure speed

The Mavic COMETE 50 carbon wheel is designed for speed, thanks to a unique combination of aerodynamics, lightness, and rolling efficiency. Our engineers have carried out multiple iterations, comparisons, and validations, including wind tunnel testing in Geneva, to optimize every element of the system. The result: a wheel that is truly faster, responsive to every acceleration, and stable at high speeds, from flat terrain to climbs.

Over a 50 km course, the COMETE 50 can give you up to a 12-second gain(1), a tangible advantage that changes your relationship with speed... and your personal records.

Full-carbon reactivity

The Mavic COMETE 50 carbon wheel transforms power into immediate acceleration thanks to the high precision of carbon.

Our specific Adaptive Layup structure, combining different fibers (T700, T1000, 3K), offers an ideal balance between stiffness, handling, and dynamic behavior. The flat carbon spokes transmit every watt without loss while reinforcing the wheel's racy character.

Internal tests show that the configuration with 21 carbon spokes per wheel, 14 crossed two to transfer power and 7 radial spokes for balance, offers the best stiffness/aerodynamics/weight ratio for precise handling and perfect tension balance, further enhancing handling precision.

The carbon spokes, capable of absorbing vibrations, improve comfort, stability, and control.

Every acceleration is more direct. Every trajectory is sharper.

You can really feel the carbon working for you.

Mavic mastery
for ultimate control

The Mavic COMETE 50 carbon wheel is the expression of our culture: testing, improving, validating, and repeating until we achieve a result that will satisfy our most demanding riders.

Each component is tested on our in-house machines, which can perform up to 57 different tests, before a second series of tests validates the performance of the assembled wheel. This double-checking process guarantees reliability that far exceeds industry standards.

In the quest for marginal gains, we have completely redesigned the core of the wheel:

  • 40-tooth ratchets for instant response,
  • An optimized spring to minimize freewheeling friction,
  • Mavic Ceramic bearings to reduce friction,
  • A redesigned hub for aerodynamic performance and responsiveness,
  • Lighter hub bodies: -22g/hub Rr & - 5g/hub Frt
  • Locked-In Spoke Heads, which secure the spoke heads and stabilize tension over time.

This combination forms a unique mechanical platform, offering consistent performance, maximum stability, and ultimate confidence, ride after ride.

Once mounted on your bike, you will immediately understand what a true Mavic wheel is.

And you'll be as proud of it as we are.

Approved by the pros

The COMETE 50 has proven its effectiveness under the intense relays of Thomas De Gendt, stage winner in the three Grand Tours and involved in its development, converting each acceleration into a measurable gain in speed and watts.

It is now used by the professionals of the St Michel-Preference Home-Auber93 team, who use it in real competition conditions. After passing the lab protocol among the 57 existing tests, it is logical that we entrust our products to our best road athletes so that they can push them to the limit, even in the worst conditions.

We do not provide direct comparisons, but our internal tests speak for themselves:

  • Wind tunnel: gains measured in watts, confirming its consistent ranking as No. 1 or No. 2 in real-world conditions.
  • Strength and durability: extreme fatigue cycles validated.
  • Stiffness and responsiveness: consistent results among the best in our protocols.

Long-lasting performance

Our laboratory tests on our measuring devices have mistreated the wheels for lateral endurance and vertical endurance at 70 km/h with a load of 120 kg representing a field equivalent of 700,000 km; enough to ride fast for a very long time(3).

Beyond these figures, our wheels will maintain their performance throughout their lifetime.

Our best technologies

The Mavic laboratory followed a comprehensive process: research, prototyping, testing, iterations, failures, improvements... until the optimal rim profile was achieved to meet the ambitions of the COMETE 50 project.

Specific Mavic Adaptive Layup
With a carbon weave optimized for stiffness/weight/vibration absorption ratio, the Mavic Comete 50 rivals the best wheels when there is virtually no wind. As soon as the wind picks up (from ≈10 km/h, incidence 10–20°), the shape of the rim improves aerodynamics and saves 5 to 10 W(4).
Each fiber orientation has been adjusted to meet the aerodynamic and mechanical demands of road racing.

Mavic Aero Wide Rim & Shorter Footprint rim shape
A section developed and validated through repeated testing.
Objective: minimize drag, stabilize the wheel in crosswinds, maximize control at high speeds, improve ground contact surface efficiency.

Aero Spokes carbon spokes
Ultra-flat, lightweight, and perfectly aligned to transmit power with surgical precision. Spoke shape determined by wind tunnel testing to reduce drag from frontal and rotational airflow. 18% less rotational drag(5)  vs standard flat carbon spokes.

Mavic Ceramic bearings
Low friction + absolute precision = consistent performance, ride after ride.

Complete assembly by the Mavic laboratory
Each wheel follows a rigorous and controlled MAVIC assembly protocol: tension, balancing, dynamic validation.

Nothing is left to chance.

(1) 12 s vs Cosmic SLR 45. We also measured a 4 s improvement vs the 1st best competitor.

(2) Measurement accuracy : this performance is measured using our testing equipment and wind tunnel tests with our specific rim profile, which allows for a 5 W gain in crosswinds at 50km/h with a 15° wind shear compared to the best current competitor on the market.

(3) Based on equivalence between endurance lab bench and km in the field.

(4) Measurements taken in the CMEFE/HEPIA wind tunnel in Geneva at 50 km/h on wheels alone with a 28 mm tire.

(5) Rotational drag: Compared to the carbon spoke used by the competition: 18% gain, or 1.1 W at 50 km/h.
