Your all-purpose aero wheel

Your versatile aero wheel

To give you a complete aerodynamic advantage on the road, we designed the Mavic COMETE 50 carbon wheel: an aero carbon wheel engineered to deliver speed, responsiveness, and control on all road surfaces.

Its 50 mm profile and 23 mm internal width ensure an optimal balance between aerodynamic penetration, stability, and comfort, allowing you to maintain high speed while retaining precise control, even in crosswinds.

Its profiled carbon spokes work in synergy with wind tunnel-optimized geometry—a design developed during our sessions at the Geneva wind tunnel and validated by feedback from professional riders and expert testers—to guarantee measurable aerodynamic efficiency in various conditions.

The new Mavic Ceramic bearings significantly reduce friction, offering you better power transfer and superior efficiency, especially as speed increases or the road slopes.

Weighing just 1,315 g per pair, the Mavic COMETE 50 carbon wheel pushes the limits of lightness without sacrificing stiffness or precision, resulting in a wheel capable of accelerating instantly, holding a line on fast descents, and maintaining a high level of comfort over long distances.

More than just an aero wheel, the COMETE 50 is a true high-performance all-rounder, capable of excelling on the flats and climbs, from sustained tempo rides to the most aggressive surges.

Total performance, concentrated in an aero carbon wheel that elevates every ride.

The aero/lightweight combo
for increased speed

The Mavic COMETE 50 carbon wheel is designed to go fast, thanks to a unique combination of aerodynamics, lightness, and rolling efficiency. Our engineers conducted numerous iterations, comparisons, and validations, including wind tunnel testing in Geneva, to optimize every element of the profile. The result: a wheel that’s genuinely faster, responsive to every acceleration, and stable at high speeds, from the flat to climbs.

Over a 50 km course, the COMETE 50 can save you up to 12 seconds(1), a tangible advantage that changes your relationship with speed… and your personal records.

The natural responsiveness
of a full-carbon design

The Mavic COMETE 50 carbon wheel transforms power into immediate acceleration thanks to the high-precision carbon construction.

Our proprietary Adaptive Layup structure, combining different fibers (T700, T1000, 3K), offers an ideal balance between stiffness, handling, and dynamic performance. The lightweight flat carbon spokes transmit every watt without loss while reinforcing the wheel’s sleek character.

Internal tests show that the 21-spoke configuration per wheel—14 crossed in pairs to transmit torque and 7 radial spokes for balance on each side—offers the best stiffness-to-aerodynamics-to-weight ratio for precise handling and perfect tension balance, further enhancing steering precision.

The carbon spokes, capable of absorbing vibrations, improve comfort, stability, and control.

Mavic mastery
for ultimate control

The Mavic COMETE 50 carbon wheel embodies our philosophy: test, improve, validate, and repeat until we achieve a result that satisfies even our most demanding riders.

Every component undergoes testing on our in-house machines, which perform up to 57 different tests, before a second series of tests validates the performance of the assembled wheel. This double-check ensures reliability far beyond industry standards.

In the quest for marginal gains, we have completely redesigned the core of the wheel:

  • 40-tooth ratchets for instant response,
  • an optimized spring to minimize freewheel friction,
  • Mavic Ceramic bearings to reduce friction,
  • a redesigned hub for aerodynamic performance and responsiveness,
  • lightweight hub bodies weighing -22 g/rear hub & -5 g/front hub,
  • Locked-In Spoke Heads, which secure the spoke heads and maintain consistent tension over time.

Together, these elements form a unique mechanical platform, delivering consistent performance, maximum stability, and ultimate confidence, ride after ride.

Once mounted on your bike, you’ll immediately understand what a true Mavic wheel is.

And you’ll be as proud of it as we are.

Approved by the pros

The COMETE 50 has proven its effectiveness during the intense sprints of Thomas De Gendt, a stage winner in all three Grand Tours and involved in its development, by converting every acceleration into a measurable gain in speed and watts.

It is now used by the professionals of the St Michel-Préférence Home-Auber93 team, who put it to the test in real competition conditions. After passing the lab protocol among the 57 existing tests, it makes sense that we entrust our products to our best road athletes so they can push them to the limit, even in the worst conditions.

The commitment
of the design team

We do not provide direct comparisons, but our internal tests speak for themselves:

  • Wind tunnel: gains measured in watts, confirming its consistent ranking as No. 1 or No. 2 in real-world conditions.
  • Strength and durability: extreme fatigue cycles validated.
  • Stiffness and responsiveness: consistently among the best results in our testing protocols.

Long-lasting performance

Our lab tests on our measuring equipment subjected the wheels to lateral and vertical endurance testing at 70 km/h with a 120 kg load, over a distance equivalent to 700,000 km on the road—enough to ride fast for a very long time(3).

Beyond these figures, our wheels maintain their performance throughout their entire lifespan.

Our best technologies

The Mavic lab followed a comprehensive process: research, prototyping, testing, iterations, failures, improvements… until we achieved the optimal rim profile to meet the ambitions of the COMETE 50 project.

Mavic Adaptive Layup
With a carbon weave optimized for stiffness, weight, and vibration absorption, the Mavic Comete 50 rivals the best wheels in nearly calm conditions. As soon as the wind picks up (from ≈10 km/h, angles of attack 10–20°), the rim shape improves aerodynamics and delivers a gain of 5 to 10 W(4).
Each fiber orientation has been adjusted to meet the aerodynamic and mechanical demands of road racing.

Mavic Aero wide rim profile & optimized contact patch
A section developed and validated through repeated testing.
Objective: minimize drag, stabilize the wheel in crosswinds, maximize control at high speeds, and improve the efficiency of the contact patch.

Aero carbon spokes
Ultra-flat, lightweight, and perfectly aligned to transmit power with surgical precision. Spoke shape determined by wind tunnel testing to reduce frontal and rotational airflow friction. 18% less rotational drag(5) compared to standard flat carbon spokes.

Mavic Ceramic bearings
Low friction + absolute precision = consistent performance, ride after ride.

Fully assembled by the Mavic laboratory
Each wheel follows a rigorous and controlled Mavic assembly protocol: tension, balancing, dynamic validation.

Nothing is left to chance.
