Born from countless discussions, testing sessions and race feedback with our Cross-Country World Cup athletes, the new Crossmax Ultimate is the lightest wheel Mavic has ever created.
Every gram, every fiber and every component has been challenged in the pursuit of pure XC performance. Extensive computer simulations, laboratory validation and on-trail testing with multiple carbon fiber and resin combinations led to the development of an all-new Adaptive Layup carbon structure. This advanced construction reduces weight without compromising the stiffness, strength and reliability demanded at the highest level of racing.
The result is a wheelset that feels incredibly fast and responsive. Carbon spokes paired with titanium spoke nipples reduce the mass by 100 grams, improving acceleration, climbing efficiency and handling precision. Combined with the new ultralight 180 g hub (rear XD 6 bolts) and premium ceramic bearings, friction is minimized and every watt is transferred directly into forward motion.

In cross-country racing, responsiveness is key. The ability to accelerate instantly, react to changing terrain and maintain momentum can make the difference during the race. That's why every element of the Crossmax Ultimate has been engineered to maximize efficiency and deliver immediate response.
At the center of the system is Mavic's proven 40-tooth ID360 LIGHT ratchet freewheel, providing rapid engagement and direct power transfer the moment pressure is applied to the pedals. Every acceleration feels immediate, every attack more effective and every technical climb easier to conquer.
The new Adaptive Layup carbon rim further enhances this dynamic ride feel. By strategically optimizing carbon fiber placement, Mavic engineers reduced rim weight by 50 grams compared to the previous generation while preserving the stiffness and strength required for elite-level competition. The result is lower rotational inertia and faster acceleration whenever the race demands it.
High-strength carbon spokes amplify this responsiveness even further. Their exceptional stiffness-to-weight ratio ensures efficient power transmission while enhancing steering precision and tracking accuracy through technical sections. Combined with titanium spoke nipples, they contribute to an ultralight construction that feels remarkably lively beneath the rider.
Completing the package is a new generation of ultralight hubs equipped with premium Mavic Ceramic bearings. By minimizing friction and maximizing rolling efficiency, they help preserve momentum and maintain speed with less effort throughout the race. Even the new freehub body has been optimized, saving 25% weight vs the standard version, the level of attention to details is the only way to the top of the podium.

The Mavic Crossmax Ultimate carbon wheel is the expression of our culture: testing, improving, validating, and repeating until we achieve a result that will satisfy our most demanding riders.
Each component is tested on our in-house machines, which can perform up to 57 different tests, before a second series of tests validates the performance of the assembled wheel. This double-checking process guarantees reliability that far exceeds industry standards.
In the quest for marginal gains, we have completely redesigned the core of the wheel:
