
Annecy University Institute of Technology crowned 2025 world champion in human-powered speed

Every year, the HPV (Human Power Vehicle) World Championships are held.
They are organised by the International Human Powered Vehicle Association (IHPVA), which supports human-powered vehicle competitions and aims to recognise and maintain records in order to encourage and promote progress in the field of human-powered technologies.
This year, it was held in Battle Mountain, Nevada, USA.
The Annecy University Institute of Technology competed with its streamlined bicycle and won three titles:
- 2025 World Champion in human-powered speed with a speed of 141.73 km/h achieved by François Pervis riding Altaïr 7, the Annecy University Institute of Technology's streamlined bicycle.
- 2025 World Champion in human-powered speed in the university rankings, ahead of the Universities of Liverpool and Toronto, and ahead of the California Polytechnic State University.
- 2025 World Vice-Champion in human-powered speed with a speed of 123.52 km/h achieved by Guillaume de France (Associate Professor at the IUT, aged 60) riding Altaïr 7.

Other key issues were discussed regarding the future of cycling, such as the fight against doping and how the testing procedures in place within the sport work. The interview concluded with a discussion of the challenges associated with the decisive time trial, an event where every detail can make a difference and prove decisive in the final standings. Finally, our engineer also explained the importance of choosing the right equipment, highlighting in particular Mavic wheels and their role in riders’ performance.

Max Foidl secured a top-15 finish and moved even closer to the top 10, whilst Mathys Guay and Giada Specia also delivered top-class performances against the best in the field.
