Stiffer and stronger
Instead of drilling the rim to attach the spokes and nipples, a threaded metallic insert is wrapped inside the carbon layups of the lower rim bridge to enable the spoke nipples to be directly screwed in it.
As a result, the upper rim bridge is left undrilled and doesn't require the use of a rim tape to be sealed.
