Your fast and light aero wheels combos

Your fast and light aero wheels combos,
optimised for all road profiles.

Comete 45/55, and 55/65 offer a wider 25mm internal profile engineered using our Aero Wide Rim conception around a modern 30mm tires, which will also give you a true rolling efficiency advantage. At 34mm, the max outer rim width generates the smoothest airflow around the rim for maximum aerodynamic efficiency

Our mixed rim depths maximize speed without sacrificing control: both wheels are highly aerodynamic, with a deeper rear reducing drag and a slightly shallower front keeping strong aero performance with better handling and crosswind stability.

The aero‑lightweight combo for pure speed and control

The Mavic COMETE 45/55 and 55/65 carbon wheelsets blend advanced aerodynamics with ultra-light construction and exceptional rolling efficiency. The shallower front rim delivers low-drag performance with confident, precise handling, while the deeper rear rim maximizes rolling speed without compromising weight or responsiveness. Thanks to Adaptive Layup carbon technology and aero carbon spokes, this wheelset feels lively under acceleration and efficient at speed. Years of wind tunnel development and real-world testing have led to a new generation of Aero Wide rims, optimized for 30mm tires. The result: a wheel that is not only faster in all wind conditions, but also lighter, more reactive, and easier to accelerate from flat roads to steep climbs and technical descents. The 45/55 combo is lighter and nimbler, a better companion if you ride more steeper gradient than rolling roads. Whereas the 55/65, although it’s light and can climb really well for a deeper wheelset, is more at ease rolling and slightly hilly routes.

Ultimate rolling efficiency

Built around a 25mm Aero Wide Rim, optimized for 30mm tires, this wheelset delivers an outstanding aero-to-rolling efficiency ratio.

Validated through wind tunnel sessions, Mavic Lab testing, and pro rider feedback, every detail is tuned for speed. The 21 aero carbon spokes minimize drag while enhancing lateral stiffness, giving a direct and responsive ride feel. Combined with Mavic Ceramic bearings, friction is reduced to the minimum, resulting in smoother, faster rolling and a sensation of effortless speed ride after ride.

The MAVIC 55 clearly stands out in this comparison, delivering a measurable advantage in combined aerodynamic and rolling-efficiency of 1.6 W over its closest competitor and up to 9.1 W against other solid options on the market. This significant performance edge translates directly into greater speed and efficiency on the road.

Full-carbon reactivity you can feel

The Mavic COMETE carbon wheel combo transforms power into immediate acceleration thanks to the high precision of carbon. Our specific Adaptive Layup structure, combining different fibers (T700, T1000, 3K), offers an ideal balance between stiffness, handling, and dynamic behavior. The flat carbon spokes transmit every watt without loss while reinforcing the wheel's racy character. Internal tests show that the configuration with 21 carbon spokes per wheel, 14 crossed two to transfer power and 7 radial spokes for balance, offers the best stiffness/aerodynamics/weight ratio for precise handling and perfect tension balance, further enhancing handling precision. The carbon spokes, capable of absorbing vibrations, improve comfort, stability, and control.

Every acceleration is more direct. Every trajectory is sharper.

You can really feel the carbon working for you.

45/55 or 55/65: which one to choose?

Cyclists prioritising lightness, agility and versatility will find the 45/55 combination the ideal choice. Whilst offering excellent aerodynamic performance, this configuration emphasises responsiveness and precise handling. The 45 mm front wheel provides crisp steering and reassuring control, whilst the 55 mm rear wheel promotes stability and cruising speed without compromising acceleration. It is the ideal choice for mountainous routes, where long climbs, technical descents and changes in pace demand a lightweight and extremely manoeuvrable pair of wheels.

For cyclists seeking the ultimate in aerodynamic performance, the 55/65 combination takes efficiency to an even higher level. The taller rim profiles reduce drag and save precious watts at high speeds, making it easier to maintain momentum. Despite this resolutely aerodynamic focus, the optimised carbon construction keeps the weight remarkably low. This configuration really comes into its own on fast, undulating routes, where speeds are higher and the total elevation gain is generally less than 1,500 metres per ride. For cyclists who ride more on rolling or undulating roads than on major mountain passes, the 55/65 offers the ultimate balance between speed, stability and aerodynamic efficiency.

Mavic mastery for ultimate control

The Mavic COMETE carbon wheels are the expression of our culture: testing, improving, validating, and repeating until we achieve a result that will satisfy our most demanding riders.

Each component is tested on our in-house machines, which can perform up to 57 different tests, before a second series of tests validates the performance of the assembled wheel. This double-checking process guarantees reliability that far exceeds industry standards.

In the quest for marginal gains, we have completely redesigned the core of the wheel:

  • 40-tooth ratchets for instant response,
  • An optimized spring to minimize freewheeling friction,
  • Mavic Ceramic bearings to reduce friction,
  • A redesigned hub for aerodynamic performance and responsiveness,
  • Lighter hub bodies: -22g/hub Rr & - 5g/hub Frt
  • Locked-In Spoke Heads, which secure the spoke heads and stabilize tension over time.

This combination forms a unique mechanical platform, offering consistent performance, maximum stability, and ultimate confidence, ride after ride.

The moment you ride them, you’ll feel what defines a true Mavic wheel, and why we’re proud to put our name on it.

Mavic R&D team commitment

We do not provide direct comparisons, but our internal tests speak for themselves:

  • Wind tunnel: gains measured in watts, confirming its superiority against competitor wheels thanks to a genuinely conceived rim shape that delivers ultimate aero performance with a 30mm tire.
  • Resistance & durability: extreme fatigue cycles validated.
  • Stiffness & responsiveness: consistent results among the best in our protocols.
  • Long-lasting performance: our laboratory tests on our measuring devices have mistreated the wheels for lateral endurance and vertical endurance at 70 km/h with a load of 120 kg representing a field equivalent of 700,000 km; enough to ride fast for a very long time (3).
Beyond these figures, our wheels will maintain their performance throughout their lifetime.

Our best technologies

The Mavic laboratory followed a comprehensive process: research, prototyping, testing, iterations, failures, improvements... until the optimal rim profile was achieved to meet the ambitions of the COMETE wheels project.

  • Specific Mavic Adaptive Layup
With a carbon weave optimized for stiffness/weight/vibration absorption ratio, the MAVIC COMETE wheels rival the best wheels when there is virtually no wind. As soon as the wind picks up (from ≈10 km/h, incidence 10–20°), the shape of the rim improves aerodynamics and saves 5 to 10 W (4).
Each fibre orientation has been adjusted to meet the aerodynamic and mechanical demands of road racing.
  • Mavic Aero Wide Rim & Shorter Footprint rim shape
A section developed and validated through repeated testing.
Objective: minimize drag, stabilize the wheel in crosswinds, maximize control at high speeds, improve ground contact surface efficiency.
  • Aero Spokes carbon spokes
Ultra-flat, lightweight, and perfectly aligned to transmit power with surgical precision. Spoke shape determined by wind tunnel testing to reduce drag from frontal and rotational airflow. 18% less rotational drag (5) vs standard flat carbon spokes.
  • Mavic Ceramic bearings
Low friction + absolute precision = consistent performance, ride after ride.
  • Complete assembly by the Mavic laboratory
Each wheel follows a rigorous and controlled MAVIC assembly protocol: tension, balancing, dynamic validation. Nothing is left to chance.
