Seven Leaders, Seven Flags, and a Set of Mavic Wheels at the G7
Categories
At the G7 Summit in Evian-les-Bains this week, cycling found itself in the spotlight. To represent French craftsmanship, LOOK Cycle's 795 Blade RS was chosen as the bike presented to the leaders of the world's largest economies, each finished in the colors of its nation. We are proud that Mavic was the primary choice of wheel to roll on.
French craft, chosen for the moment
The 795 Blade RS is built and painted in Nevers, in the heart of Burgundy. For the occasion, LOOK equipped them predominantly on the Cosmic S 42, a 42 mm aero wheel built to hold speed on the flat and climb without a fight. Two French names, brought together for a moment to be seen around the world.
To be chosen for something like this, alongside a maker we have long admired, is an honor. For us, it is also a continuation of work we have done since 1889.
Built in the mountains where the world is about to visit
The gesture points to what comes next. The bikes were chosen to celebrate the UCI Cycling World Championships 2027, Haute-Savoie Mont-Blanc. From August 24 to September 5, 2027, more than 13,000 athletes from 130 nations will gather across the lakes and mountains of Haute-Savoie, in one of the largest sporting events ever staged in France.
That region is our home. Evian sits in Haute-Savoie, and so do we. Mavic is based in Annecy, at the foot of the very mountains that will host the racing. The roads the world will watch in 2027 are the roads we ride and test every day. To help welcome the sport to our doorstep means a great deal to us.
The 2027 organizers say it often: sport unites. In Evian, it was easy to see why.
The wheel that has always been there
Mavic built the first aluminum bicycle rim in 1934. We have stood at the side of the road through the defining moments of the sport, from Greg LeMond's all-Mavic Tour victory in 1989 to more than a century of work in alloy and carbon. The names are familiar to anyone who has chased a fast group ride: Cosmic, Ksyrium, Crossmax.
A wheel is where performance meets the road. It is the part of the bike that turns effort into speed and holds its line when the surface does not. So when a French bike was chosen to carry the country's craft onto the world stage, we were honored that our wheels were part of it.
See you in Haute-Savoie
In 2027, the world comes to our mountains. We could not be prouder to help welcome it or more grateful to have shared in this moment alongside LOOK. See you in Haute-Savoie.
