Introducing the All-New Mavic COMETE 50
Categories
For years, cyclists have searched for the perfect balance between aerodynamic speed, lightweight climbing performance, confident handling, and all-day ride quality. Traditionally, riders had to choose between deep aero wheels for speed or lightweight climbing wheels for responsiveness.
With the all-new Mavic COMETE 50, that compromise disappears.
Designed as a true do-it-all aero wheel, the Mavic COMETE 50 combines advanced aerodynamic engineering, lightweight carbon construction, and race-proven responsiveness into one of the most versatile wheelsets Mavic has ever produced.
Whether you are attacking rolling terrain, pushing sustained tempo efforts, racing criteriums, climbing mountain roads, or sprinting for town signs with your weekend group ride, the Mavic COMETE 50 was built to perform everywhere.
Aero Performance Without the Drawbacks
The new Mavic COMETE 50 was engineered to deliver a complete aerodynamic advantage across real-world road riding conditions.
Its 50mm carbon rim profile strikes the ideal balance between aerodynamic efficiency, stability, and ride comfort. Deep enough to provide measurable speed gains on flat terrain and fast sections, yet controlled enough to remain stable in changing wind conditions, the COMETE 50 gives riders confidence no matter the course profile.
Combined with a modern 23mm internal rim width, the wheel is optimized for today's wider performance tires, improving tire shape, ride quality, grip, and rolling efficiency.
For riders who demand speed but refuse to sacrifice handling, this balance is critical.
Wind Tunnel Developed, Rider Tested
Aerodynamics are more than marketing claims. Mavic developed the COMETE 50 using extensive wind tunnel testing at the Geneva wind tunnel facility, refining both the wheel shape and spoke design to maximize measurable efficiency.
The wheel's aero-shaped carbon spokes work together with the optimized rim profile to reduce drag while maintaining predictable handling in crosswinds.
More importantly, the design has been validated by professional riders and experienced testers in real-world riding conditions. That means the gains are not limited to laboratory numbers. They translate directly to faster riding, improved efficiency, and better overall performance on the road.
Full-Carbon Reactivity You Can Feel
The Mavic COMETE 50 transforms power into immediate acceleration thanks to the high precision of carbon.
Mavic's specific Adaptive Layup structure, combining different fibers (T700, T1000, 3K), offers an ideal balance between stiffness, handling, and dynamic behavior. The flat carbon spokes transmit every watt without loss while reinforcing the wheel's racy character.
The Aero Spokes are ultra-flat, lightweight, and perfectly aligned to transmit power with surgical precision. Their shape was determined by wind tunnel testing to reduce drag from both frontal and rotational airflow, delivering 18% less rotational drag compared to standard flat carbon spokes used by most competitors.
Internal tests show that the configuration with 21 carbon spokes per wheel, 14 crossed two to transfer power and 7 radial spokes for balance, offers the best stiffness/aerodynamics/weight ratio for precise handling and perfect tension balance, further enhancing handling precision.
The carbon spokes also absorb vibrations, improving comfort, stability, and control. Every acceleration is more direct. Every trajectory is sharper.
You can really feel the carbon working for you.
Lightweight Enough to Climb
One of the most impressive aspects of the Mavic COMETE 50 is its weight.
At just 1315 grams per pair, the wheelset pushes the limits of lightweight aero performance without compromising stiffness or precision.
That low weight changes the riding experience dramatically. Accelerations feel immediate. Climbs become more responsive. Sprint efforts feel sharper and more direct. The bike reacts quickly while still maintaining the stability and confidence riders expect from a deep-section aero wheel.
This is not simply a flat-road race wheel. It is a complete performance wheelset capable of excelling across a full range of terrain.
New Mavic Ceramic Bearings
Mavic also equipped the Mavic COMETE 50 with its latest ceramic bearing technology to further improve efficiency and ride feel.
The new Mavic Ceramic bearings significantly reduce friction, helping riders maximize power transfer and maintain speed more efficiently, especially during high-speed riding and long sustained efforts.
For performance-focused cyclists, small efficiency gains matter. Reduced rolling resistance and smoother hub performance contribute to a faster, more refined ride experience over every mile.
Built for Modern Performance Riding
The modern road rider asks more from a wheelset than ever before. Riders want aerodynamic speed, climbing capability, long-distance comfort, precise handling, and dependable reliability all in one package.
The Mavic COMETE 50 was designed to meet those demands.
It is equally at home during:
- Competitive road racing
- Fast group rides
- Gran Fondos
- Mountain climbing days
- Aggressive sprint efforts
- Long endurance rides
- High-speed descending
This versatility is what makes the COMETE 50 stand out in today's crowded wheel market.
Continuing Mavic's Legacy of Innovation
Since 1889, Mavic has been synonymous with innovation, rider support, and premium wheel technology. From professional racing to everyday performance riding, Mavic has consistently developed products that blend durability, efficiency, and speed.
The Mavic COMETE 50 continues that tradition by bringing together aerodynamic engineering, lightweight construction, advanced materials, and rider-focused design into one complete wheel system.
More than just another aero wheel, the Mavic COMETE 50 represents a modern evolution of what a performance road wheel should be: fast everywhere, responsive under pressure, stable in real-world conditions, and capable of elevating every ride.
