MAVIC CARBON EXPERTISE 

Mavic's carbon adventure began in 1973 with the development of the first fibreglass lenticular wheel. In 1984, after aerodynamic and material studies, the first paracular carbon fibre wheels were used on the track by the French team at the Los Angeles Olympic Games. Many Olympic titles were won in Barcelona in 1992 thanks to the new 3G wheel with three profiled spokes. In 1996, its descendant, the iO, became the most successful wheel in the world.

Mavic's carbon expertise goes from design to production, and includes all the key steps. 

All our internal skills are combined to offer you a unique product. 

The emphasis is on handcrafted carbon work and all our wheels are assembled by hand. The most powerful machines cannot replace the authenticity of handmade work, where the warmth of the hand allows the carbon fibre to follow the shape of the mould as closely as possible.

THE STAGES OF CONSTRUCTION 

New fibres, new materials or new resins... the evolution of products and materials allows us to go further and further and optimise our manufacturing process. 

Our carbon know-how is divided into 4 steps: 

  1. We select our materials which are stored in a cold room. 
  2. Our team then comes to cut and stack the different layers of carbon one on top of the other according to our exclusive process. 
  3. Then we shape the rim: the part is baked and passed into a mould. It is at this key moment that it takes its final shape. 
  4. Finally, we pay particular attention to the finish of the whole wheel. The few burrs that appeared during the moulding process are removed. We then drill the rim to allow the spokes to be fitted. 

​​​​FRENCH DESIGN  

At Mavic, we focus on local. Advanced research, engineering, prototyping and testing are carried out in France, in our Carbon Competence Centre in Annecy 

We have unique resources dedicated to the research and creation of our carbon products. 

It’s here that our Cosmic Ultimate wheels are entirely designed and manufactured. It’s also in this centre that all our other carbon wheels, from the prototype to the first pre-production runs, are developed.

Made in Europe

100% EUROPEAN MANUFACTURING 

The industrial production is then carried out in our European factories. The "Made in Europe" process allows us to have complete control over the manufacturing process which ensures the impeccable quality of our products. 

This isn’t limited to the design of our wheels. All the tooling and production machines are manufactured in the Annecy region or in Haute-Savoie, while the raw material comes directly from a 200km radius. 

For our reputation is international, our expertise must be local. 

PROOF THROUGH TESTING

But how can you be sure of the reliability and quality of a carbon wheel without having tested it first? 

First of all, our wheels undergo a series of laboratory tests: resistance, shock and endurance... Everything is checked, screened and pushed to its limits. 

Once this stage has been completed, it must be validated in the field to confirm the results. Our prototypes are put to the test by our employees and athletes, taking advantage of the idyllic and demanding setting offered by the Annécien basin and the French Alps.
