Paris Roubaix - Women

02 Oct 2021
On Saturday 2 October, the British rider Elizabeth DEIGNAN won the very first women's edition of Paris-Roubaix.

The pioneers of the Hell of the North!

For the first time in its history, the "Queen of the Classics" opened its doors to women. And what a race! After a solo raid of 82 kilometres, the British rider Elizabeth DEIGNAN took the ultimate crown, ahead of the favorite Marianne VOS and the Italian Elisa LONGO BORGHINI.

On the 29 kilometres of cobbled sectors of the 116 kilometres race, the riders had to face bad weather conditions (rain, mud...), adding difficulty to an already tough course.

Another pioneer of the day, Marjolein VAN'T GELOOF (Team Drops-Le Col) became the first non-professional woman to cross the finish line on the velodrome of Roubaix. In 13th place, the Dutch rider completed the Hell of the North at more than 40km/h, writing her name in the history of women's cycling. She preceded her team-mate Maria MARTINS, 19th at the finish.
